I want to take you back on a stroll through memory lane; but first, I want you to read this:
The word of the Lord came to me: “Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem: “This is what the Lord says: “‘I remember the devotion of your youth, how as a bride you loved me and followed me through the wilderness, through a land not sown. Israel was holy to the Lord, the first fruits of his harvest; all who devoured her were held guilty, and disaster overtook them.’” Jeremiah 2:1-3
Remember what it was like when you felt like you could do anything? You were young, things were beautiful. Your relationship with God was blooming and you were going to change the world.
Then suddenly, disaster stuck. You found yourself in adulthood surrounded by the gloom of unmet expectations. You had so much potential and now, you just feel stuck in kind of a numb and lifeless state.
Is this resonating with anyone? Have you been there?
Crystal Evans Hurst, Tony Evans daughter, said this:
Can you remember her (him)? The girl (boy) who was full of life. The girl (boy) whose eyes lit up doing things that were unique to her (him).
Maybe she’s (he’s) gotten lost or buried underneath who she (he) thought she (he) should be.
Well, can I challenge you today to remember?
Remember a time when you felt the most alive: when you felt most confident, and when you felt most you. What were you doing? What were you thinking about? Who were you with? And how can you move back toward that place?
It’s not too late. Even if you’ve lost yourself in the “shoulds” and the expectations of others – you are not lost. Press on to uncover who God made you to be. Because she’s (he’s) still there.
Once you’ve remembered write the things that change that girl or boy. Then set a goal to find him/her. Because they are still there… you are still there.
Rick Warren said, “God has formed you. You have a shape.” He goes on to state what SHAPE stands for:
S– piritual gifts | H–eart, | A –bilities | P–ersonality | E–xperiences
I want to emphasize that although you might have forgotten your shape and who you once wanted to be, God remembers. God remembers the “he” or “she” you’re looking for. He remembers your love, sacrifice, and devotion. Just like He remembered the Israelites, He remembers you.
