How Did I Get Here?

Updated: Apr 21, 2023

Based on a true story.

It was a rainy morning in south Florida. The dreary weather was the perfect backdrop to my state of mind. I parked my car at the abortion clinic and headed toward the door to “get it over with”. Standing there in the rain with his head bowed was a man who looked up as I passed by him. “Are you going in there”, he asked softly, nodding towards the clinic. I said, “yes”. I noticed that he had kind eyes. “Do you have other children?”  His voice was soft and gentle. “Yes, I do” I whispered. He looked right into my eyes and said, “I’m sure you love them very much.” I began to cry.  I had steeled myself to the idea that there might be protesters outside the clinic, screaming at the women going in for abortions, but I was not prepared for the care and concern of this gentleman who stood in the rain on behalf of my child. I told him that my husband and I struggled with this decision…that we had even prayed for God to intervene in some way before it was too late. He reached into the pocket of his jacket and pulled out a business card. “These people can help you. Their services are all free and they can be trusted. You have nothing to lose if you get in your car and drive over there right now.” So that’s what I did. The business card was for Hope Women’s Centers. When I got there, they were kind and welcoming. They were happy to include my husband in the conversation, and they discussed all of our options with us without pressuring us in any way. We hadn’t slept much the night before I went to the abortion clinic, and we had actually prayed for God to intervene. It was crystal clear to us that He had done just that by providing this man to send us to Hope. We decided to embrace this gift of another child and trust God to take care of our family.

Editor’s note: Thank you, Partners in Hope. Because of your faithful support of finances and prayer, our doors were open and the lights were on when this Divine appointment needed to happen. God IS at work and His hand is VERY present, working constantly to protect the precious lives of moms and dads in crisis, as well as the unborn children whose lives may be at risk. Sidewalk counseling is not part of our medical clinics’ methodology, but God used one man who spoke in gentleness and love to intervene that rainy day on behalf of this family. There is a concert happening in the faith community in Broward County. We all have to be careful not to get so wrapped up in our own methods that we miss the music of the Father’s symphony!

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
