Discover Integrity

I wonder what Joseph’s thoughts were as he sat in jail after he maintained his integrity. He could have complied and remained silent. Who would tell? Besides Pharoah’s wife, but she was the one pursuing him.

At least two years God allowed Joseph to be incarcerated. Two years is a long time to suffer for “doing the right thing.” I’m sure at some point he felt forgotten.

According to Miriam-Webster’s dictionary, Integrity is defined as:

1: firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values: incorruptibility.

2: an unimpaired condition: soundness.

3: the quality or state of being complete or undivided: completeness.

Now, we might not be in jail for doing the right thing, but integrity should be no less important to us than it was for Joseph.

It was to one of our donors. She was sitting at the Banquet in 2012 when the challenge came to help Hope Women’s Centers. She pledged a certain amount. However, due to circumstances that year, she was unable to fulfill her pledge.

The years passed, and she still gave here and there, but the pledge she made in 2012 remained unfulfilled. She never forgot it. It stayed with her. Six years later, she called and said, “I want to fulfill my pledge from 2012.”

We trust that what people pledge, they will fulfill – even if it’s years later!

Luke 16:10 says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

I think we can all learn how important integrity is from this donor. God knows what we said we would do. Let’s seek to be people who fulfill what we say we will do. Let us be people who have integrity at home, with our family, at work, with our friends, and with our finances.

Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching – C.S Lewis
