Discover Courage

The question has crossed my mind several times… I wonder…

I wonder how many holes we are missing in our country, community, neighborhood, places of business and even our own families. I wonder how many we are missing because of abortion.

There may not be a draft going on right now, but there is no doubt in my mind we are in a war – a secret war. And we need courage to fight it.

Recently, several staff members went to the annual Care Net conference. Care Net, for those of you don’t know, is the national organization we are affiliated with.

While our team was out catching a bite to eat, our path crossed with a very interesting individual. We found ourselves standing in the midst of an open shopping area talking with him for quite a while.

Discover Generosity

This individual’s name is Shaun. He recently moved to the Atlanta area where the Care Net conference was held. He only has one other sibling – a brother who lives in Florida.

So, what made this man so interesting? His story. I once heard a quote that I believe is 100% accurate: “Every life is worth a book.” Everyone has a story – including Shaun.

Shaun was conceived in a traumatic way. His mother, who was married, was ill enough to need an ambulance. While she was being transported, she was heavily sedated and raped. She decided to carry to term, but then placed Shaun for adoption.

Shaun also told us that his brother was also adopted. He always knew he was adopted, but just found out within the last few years how his mom got pregnant.

One thing that is remarkable about Shaun’s mom is that fact that she carried to term. Those who align with pro-choice groups always use this scenario to justify the need for abortion. Yet, Shaun’s mom, who was in this same scenario, carried and then placed him for adoption.

After hearing this story, I realized that courage always leaves a legacy. She had the courage to carry to term a child that was created through her violation. Yet, this man, is now a security guard. He helps protect lives on a daily basis. His mom protected him the nine months he grew, and he protects life for a living. I don’t think that is a coincidence.

Today, I pray that we are people of courage so that courage can have a legacy in our lives and in our families lives.
